Ceresit CT174 - silicate-silicone render - 1.5mm - 25kg
What is Ceresit CT174?
Ceresit CT174 is a high-performance Silicate-Silicone Hybrid Render designed for thin-layer decorative finishes. It combines the high vapour permeability of silicate renders with the low water absorption and dirt resistance of silicone. It is the ideal choice for "breathable" External Wall Insulation (EWI) systems, particularly those using Mineral Wool boards.

- What is the benefit of a Silicate-Silicone hybrid render?
The hybrid formula of Ceresit CT174 offers the "best of both worlds." The silicate component allows the building to "breathe" (high permeability), while the silicone component makes the surface hydrophobic (water-repellent) and resistant to dirt, ensuring a long-lasting, clean facade. - Can Ceresit CT174 be used with Mineral Wool insulation?
Yes. Because CT174 is highly breathable, it is specifically recommended for Mineral Wool EWI systems. Unlike pure acrylic renders, CT174 allows moisture to escape from the insulation, preventing dampness and maintaining the thermal efficiency of the building. - Does Ceresit CT174 resist mold and algae?
Yes. It features the BioProtect formula, which uses active agents to prevent the growth of fungi, mold, and algae. This is particularly important for properties in damp or wooded areas where organic growth is common.
- Substrate Check: Ensure the surface is dry, stable, and free from any substances that decrease adhesion.
- Priming: Apply Ceresit CT16 Primer. Wait at least 3–6 hours for the primer to dry completely.
- Mixing: Stir the tub with a low-speed drill. If the render is too thick due to weather, you may add up to 1% clean water (approx. 250ml).
- Application: Use a stainless steel float to apply a layer at the thickness of the grain.
- Texturing: Use a plastic float in circular motions to achieve the uniform "stone" texture. Pro-Tip: Do not use water on the float during texturing.
- Pro-Tip for Summer Application: Avoid applying CT174 in direct sunlight. Silicate-based renders react with CO2 in the air; if they dry too fast due to sun or wind, they can develop "carbonation" patches or uneven coloring.
- Pro-Tip on Color Matching: When ordering for a large project, always ensure all tubs have the same Batch Number. If you have different batches, mix them together in a large container to ensure a perfectly consistent shade across the entire wall.
CERESIT® CT 174 combines good points of silicate plaster and silicone plaster. It is vapour permeable, of low absorbability and dirt resistant. It is used for making thin layer plasters on concrete substrates, traditional plasters, gypsum substrates and chipboards. It is recommended its application as facade plaster within complex system of warming walls of outside buildings CERESIT Ceretherm ETICS with the application of EPS boards and MW. It is protected form biological paralyses. Available pack size: 25 kg.
